Food Ministry
Our congregation has for many years been committed to helping others in the vein of love thy neighbor as thyself. We accomplish this by joining forces with Caring for Friends which has a mission to provide food and friendship to people who are homebound, homeless and hungry. Their services extend to people in the 5 greater Philadelphia area counties. Over the years, we have conducted a variety of food drives:
Meal Drives -Typically these are meals consisting of a protein, carbohydrate and a vegetable. The meals are packaged , frozen and delivered to Caring for Friends for distribution.
Soup Drives – Pint containers are prepared with a variety of healthy and tasty soups. The containers are frozen and delivered to the distribution center for delivery.
Snack & breakfast bags- In addition to contributions from members and friends, our Sunday School pitched in and packed bags with cereals, breakfast items and other snacks.
Lenten Soup Drive
For the last several years, Grace has sponsored a soup drive for Caring for Friends which provides food to undernourished in the greater Philadelphia area. Our current effort will begin March 5 and continue until April 20.

UPDATE ON GRACE’S CHURCH SOUP DRIVE November 3, 2024
It seems like a short time ago we announced ambitious soup drive plans to run through November 16th. Our plan was to collect the most soups ever for one of our drives. It is very rewarding to realize the support and results of the drive so far and we are extending the drive through Thanksgiving . So roughly we are at a halfway point in this drive with an overall total of 322 pints of soup. Other donations include 40 pounds of non-perishables and 7 complete meals. We are thankful for the results thus far achieved and requesting that you dig deep and continue to reach out with your support for this effort.
Through our partnership with Caring for Friends, their recipients directly receive food and support without cost. This is made possible through your efforts and those of a host of volunteers. A recent newsletter from Caring for Friends described some of the people who benefit from their Thanksgiving outreach including homebound seniors, disabled persons and veterans. Frozen meals and soups go to homebound seniors who cannot cook or shop or otherwise put together a meal. Some other recipients also include seniors living in low-income and veteran housing as well as meals and soup for those attending senior centers. The geographic reach of this project extends through 5 counties in the greater Philadelphia area.
We have stocked up our supply of soup containers and we are ready and willing to make them available for your donations. There are options that you may choose to make this possible:

CHANGED GUIDELINES:
Previously, we requested donors immediately freeze the soups after preparation. We recognize this can be a problem due to lack of space. We now ask that you immediately arrange for delivery or pick-up by texting or calling the number shown above. Grace Lutheran Church Council Wyndmoor
